What's great
- Same TRUE RGB Mini-LED panel tech as flagship Bravia 9 II
- ~2,000 nits peak (half the 9 II, still bright)
- Widest size range in 2026 Sony lineup (50, 55, 65, 75, 85, 98)
- Native wireless rear-speaker/sub support
- Sony XR Processor + Google TV
- AirPlay 2 + Chromecast both built in
- PS5 Auto HDR + Auto Genre Mode
What's not
- Still only 2× HDMI 2.1 (Sony 2026 problem)
- Half the color volume of Bravia 9 II
- Sony pricing premium vs equivalent Hisense / TCL Mini-LEDs
- No Dolby Vision Gaming
What's new for 2026
The Bravia 7 II got the TRUE RGB Mini-LED panel tech from the flagship Bravia 9 II — at roughly half the price. Color volume is half the Bravia 9 II (so roughly equal to the original 2024 Bravia 9), peak brightness is ~2,000 nits. That's still brighter than any 2026 OLED.
The Bravia 7 II also has the widest size range in Sony's 2026 lineup — six sizes from 50" to 98". The Bravia 9 II only comes in 65/75/85/115.
Smart TV experience & OS
Google TV with Sony XR Processor tuning. Same OS as Bravia 9 II. Gemini voice. AirPlay 2 + Chromecast. PS5 integration. No ATSC 3.0.
Picture quality & panel tech
TRUE RGB Mini-LED — same backlight tech as the Bravia 9 II. Color volume = ~50% of 9 II (roughly equal to 2024 Bravia 9). Peak brightness ~2,000 nits.
Sizes: 50, 55, 65, 75, 85, 98. Six sizes — most flexibility in Sony's 2026 lineup.
Gaming performance
Only 2× HDMI 2.1. Multi-console households need to plan around this. Otherwise solid gaming: VRR + ALLM + 4K@120 + Auto HDR Tone Mapping for PS5.
Audio & soundbar pairing
Native wireless rear speakers + subwoofer pairing. 2.0 built-in with Acoustic Surface. Pair Sony HT-A9000 for full Atmos.
Mount & install notes
Standard VESA. 65" weight ~45 lbs. Sony SU-WL855 ($350) is the brand-matched mount; third-party Sanus VLF728 ($85) is mechanically equivalent.
Who should buy this TV
Buy if: You want Sony color science · bright room · 50"-98" size flexibility matters · single console household · Apple AND Google ecosystem (both AirPlay + Cast supported).
Skip if: Multi-console household (2× HDMI 2.1 limit) · budget under $1,500 (cheaper Hisense U7SG hits similar brightness).
Rick's final verdict
Rick's verdict: the smart Sony buy of 2026. Same TRUE RGB Mini-LED panel tech as the $4,000 Bravia 9 II at roughly half the price. The 2× HDMI 2.1 limit is the only real complaint — if you can live with it, this is the Sony to buy.
Final score: 8.8 / 10 — Rick's 2026 Sony Value Pick.
