Ownership & corporate history

Ownership type: publicly-traded (since 1963)

Previously known as / acquired: Comcast Cable · AT&T Broadband (acquired 2002) · MediaOne (acquired 2000) · TCI (acquired 1999)

Xfinity is the consumer-facing brand. Comcast Cable Communications is the legal operating company. NBCUniversal is part of the same parent corporation (Comcast Corp). The retail stores are mostly corporate-operated as 'Xfinity Stores' — easier to navigate than Verizon's split-brand mess, but local store hours and equipment policies vary by market.

Returning your equipment

Accepted return methods: ups-store-prepaid-label · xfinity-store-corporate · fedex-prepaid-label

You must return: xFi Gateway / cable modem, Set-top boxes (X1, Flex, XiOne, Xumo Stream Box if rented), Voice modem (if you had Xfinity Voice), Remote controls

⚠ Do NOT drop equipment at these stores

These branded retail stores share the carrier's name but cannot accept equipment returns for this service. Confirm before driving:

  • Xfinity Mobile retail kiosks (mall kiosks selling phones — staff often can't process internet/TV equipment)
  • Comcast Business stores (separate business division — cannot accept residential returns)

Common mistake: Xfinity is generally easier than Fios because most equipment can be returned at corporate-run Xfinity Stores. But Xfinity MOBILE kiosks (the phone-only mall locations) are not the same as Xfinity Internet stores — bring your residential equipment to a full-service Xfinity Store, not a Mobile kiosk.

Where you can actually go in person

Confirmed company-operated stores that can sign up service AND accept equipment returns. Authorized-retailer addresses are tagged separately because they cannot always handle returns.
