What's in this dataset
Comprehensive ZIP-level US residential ISP coverage dataset. For every US ZIP code in our database (31,913 total), this dataset enumerates all known residential ISPs that serve the area, their type (fiber/cable/5G/satellite/DSL), their max retail plan in Mbps, and their estimated market share within the ZIP. Coverage data is hand-curated for the top 100 metro markets and synthesized from state-level patterns elsewhere. Re-verified quarterly.
Schema
| Column | Description |

Methodology
How we built and verified this dataset:
- Started with the uszips.com state-level provider list (open data, public domain) as the synthesis base.
- Hand-curated coverage for the top 100 metro markets (DMAs ranked by population) using each carrier's own coverage-checker tool. Verified by entering 3-5 sample ZIPs per DMA into each carrier's site.
- Cross-validated against FCC Form 477 broadband deployment data (last published Dec 2025) — where FCC reports a carrier as serving a census block, we include the carrier for the matching ZIP unless our direct check disagreed.
- Max plan speeds taken from each carrier's residential price-list page on the verification date. For multi-tier carriers, we use the fastest residential plan currently sold (not business-class).
- Market share is estimated, not survey-validated. Sources: Leichtman Research Group quarterly subscriber counts (where reported), state PUC filings (where public), and Census ACS broadband subscription data.
- Re-verified quarterly. Next refresh: ~90 days from publication.
Example analyses you can run
- Which states have the most ISP options per ZIP, on average?
- What's the median max plan speed for fiber providers vs cable providers in 2026?
- How many ZIPs are served only by satellite (Starlink, HughesNet) — no terrestrial wired option?
- Which ISP has the broadest US ZIP footprint by raw count?
- How does fiber coverage in BEAD-recipient states compare to non-BEAD states?
